What does going beyond look like? For me, it's naming the ways I've been complicit in enforcing white supremacist values in my theatre career; as student, educator, actor and director and then deciding to be purposeful in seeking knowledge from those whose contributions to theatre have been minimized, discounted, appropriated, and ignored. Beyond is discovering how theatre can be diverse, innovative, and exciting for ALL.

American Theatre

In my article in the January 2018 edition of American Theatre magazine entitled "Training With A Difference" I talk about the need to dismantle white supremacist values in theatre training by utilizing cross-cultural collaborative curriculums in theatre training.

On Whose Terms?...Ten Years On
Goldsmiths University, UK
March, 2018
Had the privilege of presenting a paper on decolonizing theatre at "On Whose Terms?...Ten years On" conference that unapologetically explored racism in British literature, theatre, poetry, primary education and more.
Anti-racist Theatre
A.R.T is defined as practices and policies that do not actively or passively oppress any group of people in any aspect of education or production of theatre. By focusing on racist systems and how they’re fused with current theatre pedagogy and/or policies A.R.T. teaches the contributions of people of color and other marginalized groups to the field of theatre through Conscientious Theatre Training, as well as, reveals the intersectionality of other oppressive practices such as ableism, paternalism, gender & sexual orientation discrimination, bias of indigenous peoples, and sexism with the goal of transforming organizational culture to fully inclusive, multi-cultural, and anti-racist.
About Me
My work exposes the shape-shifting quality of racism in theater, and provides a framework for theater organizational culture to transform to fully inclusive and anti-racist through the use of conscientious theatre training.
I believe unceasingly that our collective liberation is tied to one another and the way forward is together.
Workshops
My workshops are taught through my unique perspective as an actor, director, and facilitator.
Each workshop is designed to be an engaging mixture of theatre games, anti-racist theory, self-reflection and collaborative exercises that model for participants what anti-racist theatre looks like through conscientious theatre training.
My workshops are based in holistic practice* and designed to meet the needs of your organization. The typical length of workshops range from 3 hours to several days.
* Education with a holistic perspective is concerned with the development of every person's intellectual, emotional, social, physical, artistic, creative and spiritual potentials. It seeks to engage students in the teaching/learning process and encourages personal and collective responsibility.
